Can I make alterations to my engineered plans?

Per Section 102(a)(8) of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act....

(a)Copyright protection subsists, in accordance with this title, in original works of authorship fixed in any tangible medium of expression, now known or later developed, from which they can be perceived, reproduced, or otherwise communicated, either directly or with the aid of a machine or device. Works of authorship include the following categories:

Do I need a Calaveras County Business License to pull a permit?

 

It depends...

 

  • If you are a homeowner who is performing work on your residence then a business license is not required.
  • If you are a contractor licensed with the State of California Contractors State License Board and are performing work within Calaveras County, a county business license is required prior to the issuance of any building permits.

If you have a valid business license with the City of Angels Camp and can provide it prior to issuance of your permit then a Calaveras County Business License will not be required.

A County Business License can be obtained by contacting the Calaveras County Tax Collector at (209)754-6350 or by visiting their office during regular operating hours.

 

The Calaveras County Code of Ordinance defines a business as:

"Business" means pursuits, occupation, trade, profession, employment or enterprise regularly engaged in or transacted, either exclusively or not, whether transacted in its entirety in the county or partially in the county. "Business" also means the soliciting of orders (other than for goods to be delivered through interstate commerce) and the delivery of goods by vehicles owned or operated by seller. § 5.04.010

How do I create an online permit service account?

 

The Online Permit Service commonly referred to as "Etrakit" is Calaveras County's comprehensive online permitting portal. It is used to access a variety of county services using a convenient online system for homeowners, realtors, business owners, & Licensed Contractors.

 

  • Homeowners, Realtors, & Business Owners can create a personal account by accessing the sign up page by clicking here.
  • Licensed Contractors should reach out to the Calaveras County Building Department online permit services support to setup a contractors account at (209)754-6390 ext. 2 during normal operating hours.

When contacting the Building Department to setup a contractors account please provide the following information:

 

  1. Contractors State License Number
  2. Company Business Name
  3. Good Contact Email Address
  4. Good In-field Inspection Contact Phone Number

How many copies of plans do I need for my project?

It depends...

 

Starting on May 1st, 2024 the Building Department is streamlining plan review for common construction projects. Required plan submittal documents will be reduced to digital or single plan sets for the following items:

 

  1. Qualifying Agricultural Buildings
  2. 1000sqft or less Residential Additions
  3. Residential Remodels
  4. Generators
  5. Pools & Spas
  6. Residential Decks
  7. Porches, Patios, & Carports
  8. Garages, Sheds, & Barns

As well as:

  1. Non-structural Commercial Alterations
  2. Manufactured Homes

 

New Dwellings will require 2 full copies of all documents (in a minimum size of 18"x24" sheets) listed on the Single Family Dwelling submittal checklist and an extra Site Plan and Floor Plan.

 

Commercial Projects will require 3 full plan sets (in a minimum size of 24"x36" sheets) with all supporting documentation.

What are the standard plan review turnaround times?

What are the standard plan review turnaround times?

These turnaround times are projections and are subject to change dependent on project load.

 

  • Over the Counter (OTC)
    • In Person
      • 15 to 30 minutes for issuance
    • Online
      • 24 to 48 hours during normal business hours for issuance.
      • 24 hours for revisions or corrections.

 

  • Small Projects (decks, carports, etc.)
    • 10 to 15 business days for 1st review
    • 5 to 10 business days for 2nd review

 

  • New Dwellings/Additions
    • 15 to 20 business days for 1st review
    • 10 to 15 business days for 2nd review

 

  • New Commercial Buildings/Additions
    • 20 to 25 business days for 1st review
    • 10 to 15 business days for 2nd review

 

  • Commercial Alterations
    • 15 to 20 business days for 1st review
    • 10 to 15 business days for 2nd review

 

  • Plan Revisions
    • 5 to 10 business days for 1st review

What items can I defer on the my single family dwelling submittal?

Per 107.3.4.1 of the 2022 CBC...

 

Deferral of any submittal items shall have the prior approval of the building official. The registered design professional in responsible charge shall list the deferred submittals on the construction documents for review by the building official.

There are currently two items allowed for deferral;

 

  1. Sprinkler Systems (Need to indicate the type of system on the cover sheet prior to issuance)
  2. Solar Systems (Need to indicate the size and type of system on the cover sheet prior to issuance)

This list is subject to change at any time and is applicable to the Calaveras County Building Department and may not apply to other County or State Agencies.

What time is my inspection?

 

Specific times can not be requested, as times are based on the inspection route for the day.

 

Building inspections for the next day must be scheduled prior to 3:00pm the previous business day. Times are set by the inspector the morning of at 7:30am, inspection times can be found online by accessing the portal here.

Inspections take place Monday through Friday

The California Contractors State License Board offers an online service that allows you to search for a specific contractor based on your Zip Code or City. You can find that by clicking here.

Unfortunately not, current building department procedure is to contact all contacts on a permit with an email notifying them of any corrections or approvals. 

Please ensure your email is not blocking the building department email, as well as check your spam folder for any incoming emails from the Calaveras County Building Department.
